Sarah Lewin is in her second year of art at Niles North, but her admiration for art began at a young age in her home, as it has always been decorated with artwork. Lewin has even made her own additions to her home collection. “My mom has a painting in her room which I did at the age of two,” Lewin said.
As a sophomore Sarah took the first level of art offered at North, Art Foundations. She took this course for three days before her current art teacher, Lori Real, discovered Lewin’s passion for art and her eagerness to improve her artistic abilities.
Lewin was immediately moved up to Real’s Drawing and Painting class, and is currently enrolled in Advanced Art Studio, the precursor to AP Art.
Following her immersion into AP Art, Lewin hopes to continue studying art in college and is looking into schools such as Art Institute of Chicago, Savannah College of Art and Design and Rhode Island School of Design. She hopes to have a career in design, but has a backup plan in case things in the art world don’t work out.
“Aside from art, I really enjoy cooking and baking,” Lewin said “If I don’t go into an art or design career, then I will most definitely venture into the culinary world.”
Her parents’ motivation and her self drive have kept her with art throughout her life. “My parents said that I’m not allowed to get stuck doing something I hate,” Lewin said. “And art is something that I love and I simply cannot resist.”
Lewin was kind enough to allow Northstarnews.org access to her work. Check it out at the link below:

I think it’s so awesome that you’re following your passion, and it’s evident in the way you describe your art. Sweet portfolio as well–the cloud piece is incredible!
