A car struck and killed an 84-year-old man outside of Niles North High School on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 2. The man was crossing Lawler Avenue when the car, going southbound on Lawler, hit him. The accident occurred just before the school’s 3:23 p.m. dismissal. Emergency vehicles arrived promptly and police cars blocked off Lawler to through traffic.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the victim was identified as Leon Goldberg. Neither the pedestrian nor the vehicle’s driver are affiliated with Niles North.
At 3:59 p.m., Goldberg was pronounced dead at North Shore University Health System in Evanston.
Police investigators were on the scene and had Lawler blocked off past 7:30 p.m. last night. The Skokie police department will release more information when the investigation is completed.
