Vikings girls tennis celebrated their annual Senior Night Thursday, Sept. 27, as they took the win from Maine West, 4-3.
Meghan Whitehouse (junior) defeated Alma Rekic 6-3, in her first set, and 6-2 in her second to finish the first match of the night. The second singles match was taken from North’s Camille Paskind (junior) by Maine’s Aleksandra Gorski with scores of 6-4, and 6-4. And the final singles match of the night was taken from Janki Patel (senior) by Stephany Maza with scores of 6-4 (NN), 2-6 (MW), 11-9 (MW).
Patel proved especially impressive. Aside from suffering a loss, she competed for two and a half hours in the cold. She suffered injury during the lengthy match, but stuck it out until the final point. “It was definitely a tough match. Both of us were very consistent and we both put up a good fight until the end of the match which was way too close.” Patel said.
In the first doubles match April Hernandez (senior) and Dianne Maglaque (senior) lost to Rahel Anderson and Ania Holubecki 6-1 in the first set, and 6-0 in the second. The next doubles match was forfeited. The third doubles was taken by Emily Moy (junior) and Irene Cho (junior) as they defeated Kaitlin Alm and Savanna Ucinski 6-1, 6-0.
In the final doubles event Thea Daguison (senior) and Godgiven Reamico (senior) defeated Matlia Austra and Angelika Szczspanska 6-1, 6-0 to complete the scores for the day.
This was the team’s last home game of the season, but they were slated to compete in the Warren Quad on Saturday morning, Sept. 29.
