Super Bowl LVI Halftime show shines love for the greats

On February 13, we were introduced to a different type of Super Bowl Halftime Show that not only had one headliner but 5 headliners along with some surprise guests in Los Angeles, California. The performers included Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem. With guest appearances from 50 Cent, and Anderson Paak on drums. Deaf rappers Sean Forbes and WarrenWAWASnipe also performed, providing ASL interpretations of the headliners’ music. Click here to watch the full performance

The show had many surprises and was overall amazing. Key moments that definitely made it so were 50 Cent showing up to perform In Da Club, Kendrick Lamar’s overall set and the choreography that surrounded him, and the moment where Dr. Dre plays the piano that leads to the intro of Still Dre

Even though there were so many artists, it didn’t feel cramped or that anybody was lacking. Everyone did their part well. This only cements that Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, and Eminem are seasoned artists who know what they are doing and how to give a great show. And, that artists like Kendrick Lamar are legends in the making that are able to keep up with veterans of the industry.

If there is one person who could be considered the main focal point of the show, it would be Dr. Dre. Afterall, he is a renowned rapper and producer who was responsible for discovering Eminem and for some of the biggest songs ever. It feels very well deserved since rap hasn’t really been given its spotlight in the Halftime Show like other music genres.

The only complaint I have is about the setup of the performance. I do love the concept of the performance, it being one house of music. But, the problem with the placement is that there were a lot of blindspots where you couldn’t even see the performers. I would imagine it being very hard to be in the audience and watch this.

Overall, Super Bowl LVI’s Halftime Show will go down as one that everyone, no matter what age, could enjoy and appreciate. It shows that even through the trials of COVID-19, we can still get a great show.
