COVID-19 updates on tiers and phases

This past week, the Niles North area transitioned into Phase 4-Tier 1 which has led to some changes in restrictions, the most drastic being the limited reintroduction of high school sports. The graphic below shows how to move in and out of different stages, and Region 10 (Our region of Illinois) is on path to reach Phase 4 at some point this week. Also below is a chart of what the different tier levels allow in Illinois. 

Tier 3

  • No indoor service at bars at restaurants. 
  • Indoor sports and recreation is paused.
  • Funerals limited to 10 family members of decedents.
  • A test positivity rate of 13% or higher for three consecutive days during a 14-day monitoring period. 
Tier 2
  • No indoor service at bars and restaurants. 
  • Indoor fitness classes are limited to 10 people.
  • Limiting household gatherings to 10 people is recommended. 
  • A test positivity rate between 8% and 12% over a 14-day monitoring period. 
Tier 1
  • Indoor service at bars and restaurants is limited to either 25% or 25 people. 
  • No indoor tables exceeding 4 people.
  • Limit meetings and events to either 25 people or 25% overall capacity.
  • A test positivity rate of 8% or lower for three consecutive days during a 14-day monitoring period. 
Phase 4
  • All gatherings of 50 people or fewer are allowed.
  • Schools can reopen with approved safety guidance.
  • Bars and Restaurants can open with capacity limits.
  • Movie theaters and retail stores can reopen with capacity limits. 
  • A test positivity rate of 6.5% or lower for three consecutive days. 

Phase 5

  • All sectors of the economy can reopen with new safety guidelines. 
  • Large events and festivities can take place.
