Who said football has to end? When Fantasy Football is on the rise. About 20 million people around the world are getting ready to select, and draft their personalized NFL league team. Niles North has some of their very own students participating in the fun event. Let’s take a look at seniors Ben Arcus, Ray Khasho, and Nick Mathee- all three have already started their draft. All three boys play for similar reasons, “ It keeps you constantly updated with the players as one, and gives you an insight on new players that are going to rise.” senior Ray Khasho explains.
Each week starting on Thursday, you set a lineup of starter from your roster, and your team is matched up against another team in your league. Players score points depending on their performance on game day in the game day(running, catching, and touchdowns). How? Well the game of football is intense so the competition on the field is brought off as well. Individuals that go head to head each week make bets on their team as well as up-and-comers. senior Ray Khasho explains “It’s a big week for me, I have to beat my friend that attends Notre Dame College Prep, I have to beat him to ensure my team gets a spot in playoffs…
it’s definitely important to win so you get to have bragging rights among your friends for the next few months.”
If you’re interested they are many free-to-play online leagues, also found in your app store. The fun never ends… when the fantasy league is over that’s when NFL is beginning the play offs. Later the super bowl season, and with that is just celebration, and once again competition with friends, family, neighbors, and strangers. The fantasy league is another way to bring people together. Nick Mathee, senior, expresses “ It’s friendly competition, I mean you’re predicting who is going to do good each game and if your right you place your bet. It’s all a game. It’s fun.” So if you’re looking for something different this holiday season. Grab your smart phone, get on the computer, and start drafting. You can find these draftings on yahoo sports, or even in your close by app store on your device.
