Last Sunday was when the Golden State Warriors lost their star mvp, Stephen Curry. The score was tied at 56. The Houston Rockets had the ball with 3.9 seconds left on the shock clock. Trevor Ariza was bringing up the ball while Curry was guarding him, unfortunately Curry slipped and hurt his knee. As of now it is just a sprain to his Medial collateral ligament (MCL). However will the Warriors be able to make it to the finals without their starting point guard and playmaker?
“72 and 10 don’t mean a thing without the ring,” Former Chicago Bulls player, Scottie Pippen said.
Maybe Curry should have been rested more during the regular season, as Pippen mentioned above having a good record doesn’t matter. If you don’t have the ring, or the championship trophy, what was the point of playing so hard?
Curry had a terrible accident which resulted into an injury. But the Warriors offense will have to accommodate to this new change. When Curry is on the court the Warriors have an average offensive rating of 119.1 but with him off the court the rating drops to a 105.3. That in itself isn’t a huge difference, but when it comes to playoffs every point counts.
“He was standing there crying, you know, and like, ‘Dog, just get out of here. We’ll hold you down… Do what you got to do. We’ll handle business,” Warriors player, Draymond Green said.
Green had reassured Curry that the team will fight on and not lose until Curry comes back. Green himself is having an amazing season. Being drafted back in 2012 with teammates Harrison Barnes and Festus Ezeli, he has proven this season he’s an amazing basketball player. He is second in the league when it comes to triple doubles, just behind Russell Westbrook.
Green’s playmaking, Andre Iguodala leadership of the second unit, and the Warriors’ pass first mentality is the only thing that can help keep the Warriors in the playoffs without Curry.
Curry will miss the next two weeks resting his MCL sprain. Curry’s MRI revealed that the MCL sprain is a grade one, the lowest sprain possible. He will require no surgery and all he needs to do is rest and let the swelling go down.
“Thanks 4 all the prayers & messages. Can feel all the positive energy. God is Great! All things considered I’m Gonna be alright!#DubNation,” Warriors player, Curry tweeted.
