It is said that in order to be successful, you have to try various obstacles to find out who you are and what you want to do. Curriculum and Activities night proved that by inspiring many young incoming freshman to try new things. The night started off by a video presentation, aimed towards eight graders, in which many staff members and students had a deep say in why students should get involved and that they are building their story.
Bushra Amiwala, who was a speaker in the presentation, had her voice heard on why joining different clubs gets you involved. “A man came up to me after the presentation and said that he wants his daughter to be like me,” she said. “I guess getting involved helps you discover who you are and you make many great friends who always have your back,”
The event then motivated eight graders to go and investigate the different opportunities that Niles North provided. In The Point, the newly communications department showed off their unique talents by showing students how to work with digital media. Classes and clubs such as Northstar online division, Northstar broadcasting, and SAGA yearbook inspired students that reporting school and world news to the school helps students become aware of the world around them.
“I think if students get involved with the communications department, they will discover so much about the world and themselves and they will become better speakers in the future,” Lauren Rosenfield, SAGA reporter, said.
The field house had all the athletic opportunities that students can get involved with. Sports such as basketball, baseball, softball, soccer let to many sign ups for our future vikings.
In the main gym clubs and activities such as Auroris Dance Co., Cultural clubs, student leadership clubs impacted many students in which club leaderx told them that by getting involved with various clubs, you meet new friends, news discoveries, and new possibilities. By joining the many cultural clubs, you get to know the diversity of our school and how diversity makes our school a one community.
“Students should take the advantage of joining cultural clubs, such as Chinese club, because you learn about these new traditions, new facts about the culture, and new friends who come form different backgrounds and that to me is something that is important to gain while you are at high school, an experience,” Joanna Tan, Chinese club president, said.
The main goal of this night is to help eight graders become aware of how many endless possibility and opportunities they can get involved with. Weather its poetry club, French club, media design, all these activities makes us who we are and builds our story. What’s your story?
