Come support the Niles Township Hockey Team, the Nighthawks, at Skokie Park District’s Skatium Ice Arena this January 23. The Nighthawks will be holding an event to benefit the Chicago Hornets Sled Hockey program and the Chicago Blackhawks Warriors team.
The Chicagoland Hornets are a youth sled hockey team consisting of kids aged five to twenty who have physical disabilities, but have a determination to play ice hockey. The same as any other child, they desire the opportunity to participate in sports and feel the importance of being part of a team. For not all it is to play hockey, some desire the freedom from their walker or wheelchair.
“This sounds like an amazing event and it has a great cause to go along with it also- I hope it has a nice turnout!” Rida Rehmat, senior, said.
The Blackhawks Warriors are a hockey team consisting of wounded veterans, which let them relive the concept of teamwork and aid them to cope with injuries.
This military themed evening will have an introduction of VIPs, honorary captains, and the national anthem. Following opening ceremonies, there will be two games played. First, the Blackhawks Warriors will play a team made up of Nighthawks Alumni and VIPs. Afterwards, the Hornets will play a sled hockey game against the current Nighthawks team.
Though this event is aimed to celebrate the two amazing programs which are near and dear to the communities heart, it it also to pay tribute to the military- both active duty and veteran, to give them the support and solidarity that they have so rightfully earned.
