Right now the Golden State Warriors are 24-1. The Milwaukee Bucks have finally beaten the perfect team. The Golden State Warriors seemed to be unbeatable. This team has one of the deepest bench in the league. The bench consists of Leandro Barbosa, Shaun Livingston, Festus Ezeli, and Andre Iguodula. These very important players helped the Warriors keep their win streak. The team’s head coach Steve Ker is experiencing back pains and haven’t been coaching the team since last year’s NBA finals.
The small ball line up includes Stephen Curry at the point, Klay Thompson as the shooting guard, Iguodula as the small forward, Harrison Barnes is the power forward, and finally Draymond Green at center. This is extremely risky due to Green’s size as he is only 6’7 three inches shorter than the average NBA center.
The benefits of this line up allows the Golden state Warriors to pick up speed and score a lot of threes. Every player from each position can knock down a three from anywhere behind the three point line. This small ball line efficiency’s is 70.8 in points when this line up is playing. This is the highest efficient team in the NBA right now.
However, there is a disadvantage to playing small, the Golden State Warriors are 8th in the western conference when it comes to defensive rebounds. Also Green who plays the four and five position creates a mismatch when on the offensive side due to his ability to knock down threes. However due to his height and size he’s often the one being mismatched when he’s on defense.
The closest team that almost broke the Warriors win streak was the Utah Jazz and the Boston Celtics, however the Bucks were able to destroy the win streak once and for all with a final score of 108-95.
“I was sad that the historic win streak was over for the Golden State Warriors but it was understandable on how they lost, they’re tired and they didn’t have everyone playing” senior Earl Capili said.
There were many factors that played into the fall of the mighty Warriors, they played a double overtime game against the Celtics the night before the bucks, the full small ball squad wasn’t there Barnes was still injured. Also as a team the Bucks line up is huge. The average height of the Buck’s starting line up is 6’5″ this is especially hard for the Warriors to play defense against because they’ll be in a mismatch every single time during the defense.
“I just told the guys that now we can have a regular season,” “It’s been kind of a playoff feel just with the streak, all the media around, all the attention around” Green said.
The Warriors have taken this loss in stride and are ready to bounce back and play agains the Phoenix Suns on December 16.
