With a plethora of different cultures, languages and traditions Niles North serves as the nations most diverse school.
After the recent attacks by ISIS in Paris, the world broke into pieces. The outcome of these attacks resulted in discrimination of Muslims and the banning of Syrian refugees.
For those who are mourning, confused, or want to know more about these events, Niles North will be hosting Safespace on November 24 in the student activities during periods 5,6,and 7. Safespace is a discussion to talk about the recent attacks on Paris, discrimination on Muslims, and how we can all help make Niles North and the community a safer and friendly environment. Safespace is free to any student who feels they need to talk about the attacks and what their thought about the whole situation is.
“I think Safespace will help students give hope because it’s been a tough time for many. Safespace will give people more information and their thought on Islamaphobia and the banning of Syrian refugees. I recommend everyone to come to this event because it will help you be more aware and educated about the events taking place currently,” Caroline Benjamin, Director of Student Activties, said.
“Being a Muslim, there is a lot of discrimination. I am lucky that I go to a school thats holds events like Safespace and support me throught these tough times,” Zain Ahmed, junior, said.
In addition, Islamic Club will be hosting a forum on Islamaphobia on December 4, 2015 to talk about what it is like about being Muslim and the discriminations they face.
If you want to talk about your thoughts on the recent events, come to the student activities during periods 5,6,and 7. We are one!
