PALS is an all-year-round club at Niles North High School that students can participate in to make new friends who are a part of the special ed department. Students enjoy PALS because of welcoming environment.
“PALS is even better than I expected. It’s a great environment to be in, everyone is so friendly. I would definitely recommend everyone to sign up for the class,” Patrick Lentz said.
PALS allows students be paired with a buddy for the entire school year, and meet every Friday during fifth period. To become part of this club, students must have an application form and be accepted by teachers in the department. Once accepted into the club, students go through training before they get paired with their pal.
During their time together, they do different activities such as: board games, draw, and socialize. This program was created so peers in the school environment can take leadership roles by teaching their pals good life choices and more friendship skills. Current teen topics are also sometimes discussed during student lead meetings.
FYI: Outside the cafeteria next week, PALS will be hosting an annual Pumpkin Sale for fundraise for their program. They will be selling candy bags for $1.
