iOS 9 is Apple’s latest update that’s now available to download to your iPhone and iPad, and it brings a smarter Siri, Apple Maps directions, true multitasking, new built-in apps, and so much more.
iOS 9 officially launched Wednesday, September 16 and can be loaded onto your Apple device through the software update menu within “Settings”. It’s the company’s latest software, available just ahead of the release dates for iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and iPad Pro, all revealed during September 9’s keynote presented by Apple CEO, Tim Cook.
The newest Apple update brings many new attributes, including those in camera and video. The average person would probably go berserk at the thought of someone taking their phone, because they then have access to embarrassing selfies, saved screenshots, and snapchats. With the new iOS 9 update, you can finally hide photos. In camera roll tap ‘Select’ and select all the photos you want to be hidden away then tap the bottom left corner button to open a Share Sheet and select ‘Hide’. With iOS 9 you no longer need to tap individual photos for multiple selections. Just keep your finger on the screen after selecting the first photo and drag it to select as many as you want in a single action.
“Apple is one my top favorite industry. I love their new updates every year because there is something that always catches my eye and I enjoy it very much,” Jazmyn Trinos, senior, said.
Regarding battery, Apple now lets you physically see which apps are killing your battery. To get a detailed breakdown in iOS 9, go to Settings > Battery then ‘Battery Usage’.
Apple maps is sometimes unavoidable, even if you are a die hard google maps fan. With the help of iOS 9, it is now more tolerable than ever before. The app now includes long-awaited public transit directions. That means routes for subways, trains, buses, and, yes, even ferries are part of Apple Maps. This feature is now live in everywhere from Chicago, Berlin, Mexico City, Toronto, and even London.
“I wish I had an Apple product because it has so many features that an Android does not have. Gotta save money now,” Tahir Razzaq, senior, said.
Apple is also replacing Newsstand for News, which is a bonus for the people that love to stay up to date with the world. With iOS 9, users are able to make their own personalized feed of the exact news sources from which they choose to receive information. From anywhere like Buzzfeed, CNN, TIME Magazine, and TMZ.
As always, Apple has truly outdone themselves- or should I say ‘outbit’ themselves. “Ba-dum-ch!”
