It’s that time of the year again! With homecoming right around the corner, some of us are scrambling to find an outfit to wear for the special night. Although homecoming isn’t as big and exciting as prom, students struggle in finding the perfect dress or even color scheme for your outfit seems to be a struggle every year. Here are some “Do’s and Don’ts” to help you prepare an outfit for the eventful night.
Do wear something that shows off your personality! What does this mean, you ask? Well, here are some questions to ask yourself.
- What’s your favorite color?
- Are you more of a glitter and sparkles kind of person or do you like plain and simple?
- Do you want something that flows, or do you want something that’s a bit more tight?
Keep those 3 questions in mind when finding the perfect outfit for the perfect night. Also, remember this years theme is masquerade ball, so click here for some ideas that might spark a light.
Another do for picking out the right outfit for homecoming is… wear comfortable shoes! This doesn’t necessarily mean wear flip flops (which is a don’t, by the way), but wear something that’s a bit more respective of your height. Wearing 7-inch heels isn’t exactly always comfortable and you won’t be able to have much fun in them anyways! Try not to leave homecoming with a rolled ankle.
If you’re trying to be a bit more unique, try on colors that aren’t so typical. Most people go to homecoming with a red, black or white, and you should always want to stand out! So choose a color like blue, or a nice green, or my personal favorite, gold, and I’m sure you’ll be getting positive feedback as soon as you step on the dance floor.
Something to keep in mind is that you should wear something that you’ll be comfortable in. Make sure the both the inside and the outside of your outfit don’t have annoying tags that are going to irritate you or don’t have weird and irritating textures that will affect your having fun.
Another thing is, even though homecoming isn’t as special or formal as prom, it still is a night that you should dress up for. Your friends and peers see you around school wearing jeans and a shirt all the time, so make sure your outfit is on “fleek” so that you leave people speechless.
Now that we’ve covered the most important “do’s”, let’s move on to the dreaded “don’ts”.
One of the most important things to remember – and I cannot stress this enough – is to not clash colors. For instance, boys, don’t wear a red shirt and purple pants. Girls, don’t wear a brown dress and green shoes.
Don’t do too much with your makeup. Go with something so that we can still recognize who you are.
Boys!! Do not wear hats! Although unique, it’s not something that exactly shows off your good sense of style.
Don’t buy the first dress that you see. Even if you’re in love with it, it won’t hurt to put the item on hold, look around and even check other stores out because chances are you’ll find something you love even more.
And that’s it, Niles North! So remember these helpful tips when going homecoming shopping this weekend. I promise you if you follow these tips, you will not only look great, but you’ll feel even better!
