Every girl with long hair knows the struggles; it being static-y during the winter, not knowing what to do with it when you have those inevitable “bad hair days,” getting hair in your mouth, in your food, everywhere. Having not cut my hair since the summer going into my freshman year, I decided I was fed up with all of it. So, I set up a hair appointment to chop it all off.
If you’re thinking about chopping your luscious locks off, this is what you should expect.
Initially I was so excited, I counted down the days and let me tell you, I was READY. I was like The Karate Kid ready to Crane Kick my hair off.
So I sit down in this chair, start talking about the length and look that I want, no big deal. The hairdresser puts my hair in a ponytail and as soon as she starts chopping, I start going through the seven stages of grief. I’m freaking out, I kept saying, “I’m gunna die!”
Spoiler Alert: I didn’t die.
The first thing that’s gonna feel weird once it’s all off is running your fingers through your hair, you’re gonna be like, “What the heck; where’s the rest of it? Where’s all the knots?” GONE. THEY’RE JUST GONE. DON’T BE ALARMED. THIS IS GOOD.
The second thing is that short hair allows for really nice hair flips. Your head is going to feel about 13 pounds lighter.
The next thing you’re going to notice (and love, I might add) is how cute your ponytail looks: two inches long and pretty adorable. My next endeavor was to try the pigtail look, and let me tell you, I was not a fan. But that doesn’t mean you won’t be.
All in all, I would 100% recommend taking the risk if that’s what your afraid of. Everyone was so welcoming and complimentary to the new change, and it helped so much with the transition. And the best part is, now you have all these fun new hair looks you can try and experiment with, so just go crazy and have fun!
