WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the movie that we all have been waiting for has finally come out. Ever since her first appearance in “The Conjuring,” horror fans everywhere have been dying to know more about the creepy doll we all know as Annabelle.
Based on a true story, “Annabelle” takes place in the 1960s in California where, after a quick introduction – the same one that started “The Conjuring”- you are introduced to a budding new family.
Mia (Annabelle Wallis – how ironic) and her husband John (Ward Horton) are preparing for the coming of their new baby. John gives his wife the beautiful Annabelle doll she had been looking for for so long, and she quickly adds it to her collection.
That night, their neighbors’ cult-crazy daughter, Annabelle, goes to her parents house and kills them in order to give their souls to Satan. Mia wakes up in the midst of everything and has John go check. He comes back quickly, ordering her to call the police, and runs back to the neighbor’s house.
She runs to the phone, dials the police, then ends up back in her bedroom where it all started. Then we see the crazed Annabelle in Mia and John’s house, carrying the infamous Annabelle doll. She whispers, “I like your dolls,” and that’s when everything goes down.
Mia is eventually stabbed and Annabelle is dead, giving her soul to the Devil. A drop of blood drips down from the girl, to the doll, and that’s how it all starts.
Although the movie had many jump-scares, which of course freaked me out, I thought the story was weak. I personally enjoy horror films that have a good plot as well as making me jump; but everything that you think is going to happen, happens. Also, it was surprisingly very “Satan-oriented.” I know most paranormal movies have evil spirits and demons, but this one was very specifically targeted towards the Devil.
I give it 2.5 North Stars.
