Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 15th, but it’s not too late to make or buy a great gift. Homemade gifts are arguably, the most appreciated, so try to get creative with your gifts.
Check out some of the ideas below!
Picture Frame
Whether you buy a picture frame or you decorate a plain one, this will be a very thoughtful gift!
Paper Wallet
All you need is paper, a little tape, a pen, and some scissors to make the perfect father’s day gift.
The key part of this DIY project is to pick out the right paper. Here are some types of paper that will enable you to make cool and creative wallets:
- Origami paper
- Magazine or Newspaper clippings
- Comics in the Sunday newspaper
- Catalog clippings
- Colored Paper with stickers/and or drawings
Make sure this paper is 8 1/2 x 11 size.
Now comes the hard part. We have a drawn tutorial so you can follow along!
- Fold the paper hamburger-style.
- Unfold, take the ends and fold them into the 1st fold. This will create 4 sections.
- Unfold and fold the whole paper hotdog-style.
- Mark the ends of the folds. These should be about a centimeter long. Mark similar to the picture above, creating a diamond towards the middle fold in the center.
- Cut along the marks.
- Fold in the flaps according to the drawing above.
- Tape the end of the paper, closing the gap between the two parts of the sheet.
- Refold the wallet. Fold the flaps into the wallet.
- Tape the end of the wallet, if desired.
- Wrap up the gift and give it to your dad!
Mix CD / Playlist
Make your dad the perfect playlist for driving to work, listening to in the house during the day, or hanging out in the sun in the backyard. Burn his favorite songs onto a CD or make a playlist on programs such as 8tracks or Spotify. You could even load it onto his smartphone, laptop, or iPod.
Fun Coupon
Has your dad been asking you to mow the lawn all week? Or maybe he’s been begging you to go see that cool new movie with him? Either way, making a fun little coupon with an activity or chore written up will be sure to put a smile on your dad’s face. You can use construction paper or just simply type one out and print it!
Get Grillin’!
Father’s Day is the perfect time to fire up the grill. The Spice House in Evanston is the perfect place to pick out spices for grilling. Get creative this season with your food and try out grilling spices and rubs!
My dad would recommend the King Creole Seasoning, Pilsen Latino Seasoning, and Bronzeville Rib Rub.
Happy Father’s Day everyone!
