Irish Soda Bread (2 loaves)
My family loves enjoying this delicious bread with a few dabs of butter on top. It’s perfect for breakfast with a cup of Irish breakfast tea. My great-grandma originally passed this recipe on to my grandma by telling her “a few fists full of flour and a pinch of salt”. There wasn’t always a recipe to follow, you just had to know by heart how to make it. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
6 cups flour
2 tsp salt
1 1/3 cup sugar
2 tsp baking soda
4 tsp baking powder
2 2/3 cup buttermilk
4 beaten eggs
6 tablespoon melted crisco
Golden and regular raisins (as many as you want, the more the merrier)
Instructions:
1. Set the oven to 375 degrees.
2. Mix the flour, salt, sugar, baking soda, and baking powder.
3. In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, beaten eggs, and melted crisco.
4. Mix the wet and dry ingredients together and add raisins. You can add as many as you like.
5. Lightly grease the loaf pans and bake the bread for 1 hour or until a toothpick placed in the center of the loaf comes out clean.
