For the second year in a row, the Niles North Co-ed Cheerleading squad has claimed the CSL Conference Co-Ed Cheer Division Championship. The team gave it their all during their competition routine, which was practically perfection. Equipped with high flying stunts, intense tumbling and an extremely well choreographed dance, there was no doubt the team would take home the trophy.
“It was definitely a little nerve wracking for us having to defend our title, but once we got out there and fed off the energy of the crowd, everything felt great!” Junior Elizabeth Phillips said.
The cheerleaders were feeling confident as they had just taken first place at their last competition hosted by Rolling Meadows High School. “I was really proud of the work my team put in to accomplish our goals,” senior Jasmine DeGuzman said.
This year, the team faced many new challenges. “This year our coed varsity cheer team is very young and many members are completely new to the sport of competitive cheer. Coach Hoss and I have been working with this team since the summer and the growth that they have shown has been remarkable,” Coach Alexandra Landon said.
Despite the challenge, the Vikings gave it their all and proved once again that NNHS is the best. “As we continue our season and compete in the next few competitions and sectionals, we know this team will continue to work hard and show that they are fierce competitors in this IHSA sport!” Come see them in action at Grayslake North High School on Sat., Jan. 18th.
Congratulations NN Cheer!
