On Saturday, Dec 7, Niles North played against Niles West in the annual D219 Basketball Jamboree where all proceeds went towards the breast cancer association.
Niles North girls and boys varsity team were both victorious Vikings, winning the District 219 Breast Cancer Basketball Jamboree trophy.
The girls varsity team came in with a good fight and left with a great win. With only 12.1 seconds left on the board and Niles West winning, 64-63, nothing would stop junior, Kienya Jones, from making the last second shot for the win.
Great job to the lady Vikings on their victory with ending the game, 64-65.
The last game of the night was the boys varsity game. Determination gave the boys a strong victory by ending the day with a 76-66 victory. Throughout the match, Niles North boys varsity team kept a 10-point lead; even when Niles West caught up, our varsity team fought back and won with pride.
Senior Kevin Hanna had one last statement before the day’s end.
“Coach Olson has built a program of fighters. When one of our top players go down we don’t look at that as discouragement, we embrace it. It’s next man up. It was a good team win, and will help us in achieving our ultimate goal in march, a regional championship.” Hanna says.
What made this event enjoyable was definitely fan base. North’s side was packed with school spirit and cheered on the Vikings with pride. Great thanks to the students and faculty who were able to attend this event, let’s see this kind of support the whole season!
Go Vikings!
