What could possibly be the one thing every lovebird longs for? A vocal Valentine, of course!

On Wednesday, February 14th, Niles North’s choral department debuted a tradition that swooned the lovers of Niles North. What could possibly be the one thing every lovebird longs for? A vocal Valentine, of course!

Students purchasing Vocal Valentines had four songs to choose from to deliver to their valentine.

These songs were:

  • “Perfect”
  • “Best Part”
  • “Stand by Me”
  • “Can’t Help Falling in Love”

Each choir was assigned to sing one of the songs. After writing Valentine’s cards to give to recipients and drawing maps to navigate the school in a timely fashion, the students were off to sing to their peers.

Decked out in pink and red outfits, choir students halted scheduled learning for about 2 minutes as they serenaded their classmates in style.

One of the curricular choirs, “Choraliers”, successfully serenaded Ms. Attig. (Mr. Dahan)

Choir teacher Mr. Dahan explained why he introduced this idea.

“It gave some visibility to the choir department,” Dahan said. “It was a really good reason to come together, people got to hear the students sing and make art. They thought of other people when they were buying it. They weren’t just thinking about themselves.”

This opportunity was slightly nerve-wracking for choir students, but extremely rewarding in feedback.

“I liked seeing people’s reactions. Especially the teachers.” Livvy Altemeier, a member of the Choraliers choir said.

Indeed the reactions of both students and teachers to the vocal valentines were overwhelmingly positive.

“We got so many good compliments from many people.” Mr. Dahan said.

Did you miss buying a Vocal Valentine this year? Don’t worry, because the Choir Department plans on implementing Vocal Valentines next year, and in the years to come.
