What is your name and year? Chiwendu Elue and I’m a junior

Where were you born and Zodiac Sign? I was born in Chicago and my zodiac sign is Leo.

Do you have a favorite music artist?  I’m into Nigerian artists such as Tems and BurnaBoy .

What is your favorite song? I don’t have one because I love listening to music but currently I’m listening to “Wetin Man Go Do.”

What is your favorite book? I just read, I don’t have a favorite book.

What is your comfort food? I would say nigerian meat pie which is a pie with (usually) beef.

Hobbies? I really like upcycling, I got into it during 2020 when I had time to upcycle more and now it’s like a hobby, I also like writing poetry.

What clubs are you participating in at Niles North? I’m currently in DM, WHO Club, Mock Trial, Black Student Union, DREAM, Spanish Honors Society, Student Council, Principal Adviser Committee and Sports Medicine.

What made you join DM? I joined DM because I knew I wanted to use more of my time to volunteer. I also heard that the work they do is very impactful, for example raising thousands of dollars to the beneficiary of their choice. This year the beneficiary is the harbor, they provide housing, resources and support for homeless teens.

What is your favorite thing about DM? My favorite thing about DM is that you’re able to come in every wednesday and meet and converse with other members who are just as dedicated to the cause and whether it’s creating merch, counting money or setting up fundraising dates or just recruiting new members it’s just a good community.

Something you feel is interesting about yourself. I would say my background (at least in  Niles north) being Nigerian, specifically being Igbo I have many cultural experiences which have shaped me into the person I am, which is being driven to pursue a good career and just to be successful.

What have you learned since coming to Niles North? I’ve learned the importance of making quality friendships, and I’ve also learned how to support myself the best I can because seeing as I started my freshman year at home and learning how to motivate myself which is a big part of myself now.

Do you have a favorite memory? I really enjoyed going to Jamaica in 2022 because it was  honestly really nice to just get out and meet new people and specifically at school a fun memory was getting to pie teachers at the assembly and of course the memories I make at DM and Mock Trial because they’re just such welcoming spaces.
