What is your name? Ashley Weatherspoon

What Year are you?  Freshman

Where were you born and Zodiac Sign?  Washington DC, Maryland and I’m a cancer.

Do you have a favorite artist?  The backseat Lovers.

What is your favorite song?  Lovers rock by T.V Girl.

What is your favorite book?  I would say If we were villains” by M. L Rio, it’s a thriller telling the story of how Oliver Marks ends up serving ten years in prison. After meeting Oliver the book skips back to 10 years ago at the start of Oliver’s senior year at Dellecher Shakespeare conservatory and continues on.

Do you have any movie recommendations?  Half of it was directed by Alice Wu.

What is your comfort food?  Yukgaejang, a spicy Korean soup dish.

Hobbies?  I like to do a lot of things but recently I’ve been obsessed with baking cookies, reading, and crocheting.  

Something you feel is interesting about yourself I have a collection of state quarters.

What have you learned since coming to Niles North? I’ve learned that Highschool is both easier and harder than I’d thought it would be, and that you have to take time for your mental health even if it affects your studies.                                  

Do you have a favorite memory? Two winters ago my family went tubing in Wisconsin and there was nobody there, so we went on it for about an hour but honestly it was really fun. 

What is the research you are doing in SIRS? I’m seeing the effects on daphnia and spirogyra life cycles when exposed to octinoxate and zinc oxide (two different UV filters). I’m collecting data on the number of offspring and death in 3 different groups. For spirogyra I measured the growth and counted the number of spirals.                     

What clubs/after school activities are you involved in? I’m in the new figure skating club at Niles North which I helped start out and co-found (come check it out), Varsity girls cross country and track, Morale Captain for Dance Marathon, Riot, WHO club, Korean Club, competitive figure skating, HOSA where I was a state finalist, I also qualified for state in two events on the Math team, I’m one of the school’s CSSI student representatives as well, and I helped plan the education forum.
