Diego Olivares, Junior

What is your name and grade? My name is Diego and I am a junior.

What is the best memory you have from this year so far? I’d say the best memory I had this year was going to the Niles West basketball game.

What activities are you in? I [was] in cross country, which is a sport, and I’m gonna do track in the spring and I’m in Latinx and Filipino club.

How long have you been in Filipino Club? I’ve been in Filipino Club since November of last year.

What was your favorite part about The Battle of the Bamboo? I say it was just watching the other groups perform.

How did it feel playing your role in the Battle of the Bamboo? What was your role? My part in Battle of the Bamboo was a monster and I had to act like a giant in attacking the main soloists during the performance. I felt amazing performing for a competition of a different culture than my own, which for me, is a cool new experience.

How did you overcome the nerves when you were about to go on stage? I just tried to steady myself, just take a few deep breaths, and [tried not to] overthink it and just try to have fun.

Would you recommend anyone to join Filipino club and if so why? Yeah, honestly, I would. The reason why is because it’s a great way to make new friends, [it’s] great social interaction, and just a great way to learn about Filipino culture.

What’s been your biggest accomplishment? I’m not sure, really, but I would say it’s getting my [driver’s] permit.

What’s your favorite activity outside of school? I’d say just playing video games.

What is your favorite TV show? That’s a hard one. I’d say one of my favorite TV shows is this one show called Young Justice, it’s a DC show, it’s a really good show.
