On Feb. 2, Manchester United forward, Mason Greenwood’s attempted rape case was dropped, creating controversy and speculation.

The 21-year-old Greenwood was arrested in Jan. 2022 due to leaked images and videos given by his girlfriend at the time, Harriet Robson. He was later charged by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) with controlling and coercive behavior, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and attempted rape.

The leaked images and videos revealed the supposed injuries that Greenwood inflicted on Robson. Robson also revealed audio recordings of their conversation in which Greenwood verbally assaulted and tried to attack her.

Some have accused Greenwood of paying the Crown Prosecution Service off due to the amount of evidence. Others have said that Greenwood is innocent.

“Personally I loved Mason as a player, but then I heard about what he did and it’s just unforgivable,” senior Diego Hernandez said. “What he did was disgusting and even if his case got dismissed, he shouldn’t even be allowed back to Manchester United.”

Mason Greenwood was Manchester United’s future star. He was an ambidextrous youngster that shocked the Premier League with his explosive pace. Some compared him to the next Wayne Rooney.

During the 2021-2022 season, Greenwood scored 22 goals for Manchester United and helped the team reach sixth place.

After the case was dropped, Greenwood has been in touch with Manchester United’s manager, Ten Hag for the first time since his case was dropped.

Greenwood still has Manchester United in his Instagram bio and even Nike football, even though Nike publicly stated that they cut ties with the Englishman. He even posted pictures of him working out and training on his Instagram story.

The forward’s return to Manchester United is unsure since they are conducting an internal investigation. It has been rumored that the club will canvass opinions from the men’s and women’s clubs to help decide Greenwood’s future in the club. Greenwood has reportedly been looking at a career in China if Man U lets him go.

Greenwood may get a maximum salary in the Chinese Super League (CSL). The Chinese Football Association (CFA) increased the salary cap for foreign players last year to £2.7 million, which roughly translates to £50,000 per week.

Though his charges were dropped, Greenwood’s time at Manchester United may come to an end as the club progresses with its internal investigation.
