The month of November is recognized as Indigenous People’s Month, which is the perfect time to celebrate the people who are American Indian or Alaskan Native. This time of the year is especially important to remember Native Americans and their many ancestors from before this country was established.

Indigenous People’s Month was first made official in 1990 when the law was passed by Congress and George W. Bush signed off on making November the official month to celebrate Native Americans.

There are many different ways we can celebrate the Native People all around the year, but this month especially. A big part of celebrating Native Americans is spreading awareness. We can start by doing research on their culture and their history. A big part of this is recognizing that we live on stolen land. We can support Native American businesses by buying art, jewelry, clothing, or even food. The day after Thanksgiving, which most people recognize as Black Friday is also known as Native American Heritage Day.
