Listen up: NSN staff recommends more podcasts

You can never have enough podcasts. The North Star News staff is here to recommend some podcasts that come from all different genres for the Niles North community to enjoy.

Scishow Tangents is a different kind of podcast: It’s an informative and entertaining game-show style podcast with banter about video games, fun facts, and the other weird things that long tangents lead to. It is hosted by Hank Green, Ceri Riley, Stefan Chin, and Sam Schultz. Click here to see their website.

Imagine a podcast that’s filmed, recorded, and interviews people, all outdoors. Podcast But Outside provides that, setting up a table on the sidewalk and paying people a dollar each to have a conversation. It usually takes place in California with different themes and guests for some episodes. It is hosted by Cole Hersch and Andrew Mischann. Click here to see their website and their past episodes.

Making Gay History aims to tell the hidden story of the LGBTQ+ Civil Rights movement and tells personal stories from LGBTQ+ people in history, through found interviews and narration. The podcast covers stories from unknown queer figures, as well as those from famous figures, like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. Click here for the official website, and to keep updated for the next season of Making Gay History premiering on February 17.

Code Switch primarily focuses on race and how it affects our culture and everyday life. Fun fact: It was named Apple Podcasts’ first ever Show of the Year in 2022. It is hosted by Gene Demby, a journalist and the founder of PostBourgie. Click here for the link.

Radio Ambulante is a spanish-language podcast that primarily focuses on Latin American Life and sheds light onto stories that don’t usually get told in traditional media. It is hosted by Daniel Alarcón, who is the co-founder of Radio Ambulante and a novelist. Click here to see the official Radio Ambulante website.
