The long-dreaded wait of anticipation at the movie theatre is over. After their release dates long postponed due to the nationwide closure of cinemas, several new films will finally surface to see the light of theatres this summer. From a thrilling new sequel to a jaw-dropping horror film to a long-anticipated addition to the Marvel universe, here is a list of five new must-see flicks to check out after the end to an exhausting school year.

1. A Quiet Place Part ll (May 28, 2021)

In the newly brewed sequel to the terrifyingly breathtaking film A Quiet Place presented, the Abott family must face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Due to the chain of deadly events that recently transpired within their home, they are now forced to venture into the unknown, quickly realizing that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.

 

2. Vivo (June 3, 2021)

Breakout Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda is set to star in an exciting new animated film, featuring the story of Vivo (voiced by Miranda), a capuchin monkey, accompanied by his beloved owner and best friend, Andrés, who spend their days in Cuba, entertaining local crowds with their shared passion for music. But tragedy suddenly befalls the duo when Andrés receives a letter from the famous Marta Sandoval, asking her old partner to attend her final concert in Miami before retirement. With the hope of reconnecting the two lovers, it’s up to Vivo to write Marta the perfect love letter in the form of a song and to make the long journey to Miami to reunite the long-lost pair once and for all.

 

3. Fast and Furious 9 (June 25, 2021)

Van Diesel and Dwayne Johnson are back for more heart-stopping action in the latest installment of the wildly popular Fast and the Furious series. This time, Dominic Terreto is forced to join forces with the crew to battle the most highly skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered–his forsaken brother. As the Toretto brothers stand face to face for the first time in years, the stakes are sky high as they vigorously pursue one another with one goal in mind–to exterminate the other.

 

4. Black Widow (July 9, 2021)

It’s the moment millions of Marvel fans all around the world have been waiting for, since it was first set to be released on May 1, 2020: Black Widow’s first solo movie. The latest installment to the ever-expanding Marvel universe explores the backstory of Natasha Romanova, a.ka. Black Widow, when she is handed over to the KGB at birth, who coerces her to become its ultimate operative. When the U.S.S.R. breaks up, Black Widow heads to New York, where she works as an undercover freelance operative to evade the government, who wants her dead.

 

5. Space Jam: A New Legacy (July 16, 2021)

In the sequel to the original Space Jam featuring the legendary Michael Jordan, Lebron James, along with the long-adored Looney Toons characters, will be forced to take on a group of rogue artificial intelligence opponents in a basketball match for the ages. When LeBron and his young son Dom are trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I., LeBron must get them home safe by leading Bugs, Lola Bunny and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the A.I.’s digitized champions on the court: a powered-up roster of basketball stars as you’ve never seen them before. It’s Tunes versus Goons in the most highest-stake challenge of his life, that will redefine LeBron’s bond with his son and shine a light on the power of being yourself.
