This letter is in appreciation for the work and courage of you, the student journalists of Niles North. Your research, your words, and your work of critical discernment are vital to our community, especially now, in this time of social upheaval, when anti-democratic forces are working to confuse and obfuscate the public. Dr. Timothy Snyder, in an interview with the Appalachian State University Humanities Council, has said, “truth is a positive value towards which we must strive, not only for moral but also for political reasons.” Authoritarianism is the real and active political force that poses the greatest threat to our democracy at this time. Thank you for working for truth.
