In light of recent events, such as the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal and the Women’s March, there has never been a more important time to provide students with a space to discuss, learn, and collaborate about feminist issues.

Each week at Niles North Feminist Club, members gather to discuss hot topics in gender inequality and hold an open discussion to learn from each other what steps Niles North Students can take to challenge the patriarchy.

Examples of discussions include: lessons from feminist artists such as Yoko Ono, history of the Riot Grrrl movement, beauty standards in countries as far away as India, and debunking the myth of virginity. Feminist Club has it all.

The club has a devoted following and attracts up to 30 people every week.

A member of Fem club, Jade Hansen, said, “Fem club is important to me because it creates a space for people to grow as individuals and learn about feminism through their peers. It is a place where I feel welcome and safe. Fem Club is my favorite part of the week.”

Here is a media package that further illustrates fem club’s goals and actions at Niles North produced by Bella Levavi.
