The Niles North girls gymnastics team placed seventh place at their last home invite on Saturday, Jan. 18. This invite also marked the team’s senior night for the 2013-14 season.
Their talents were met by thirteen other schools which included Bartlett, Evanston, Fenton, Geneva, Hersey, Highland Park, Hoffman Estates, Lane Tech, Maine East, Maine South, Morton, and our familiar rival, Niles West.
The invite was the perfect place for the girls on the team to showcase each of their talents in the four difficult events: balance beam, floor exercise, vault, and uneven bars.
Special recognition from the team was given to Niles North freshman Kaylie VanDoren who placed first on the beam and seventh all around, which means she was judged based on how she competed in each of the four events.
The team captains, seniors Rebecca Ainis and Nicole Hawel, reflected on the success and further growth they achieved at the invite and promised that it would indeed be continuous.
Ainis said, “My whole team made senior night really special and they made me feel proud to be on a team that is such a family. We’ve definitely had out ups and downs this year, but our success at the invite shows how much potential we have. I think that we can only get better from here on out.”
Come support the girls gymnastic team at their next meet on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Niles West at 1:00 p.m.
