There’s no doubt about it that this year’s 2013 Homecoming was over the top and out of this world. I personally had a blast. The caliber of this past Homecoming may have successfully raised attendance compared to past years, but its success still seems to have a catch.
Underneath the surface of all the lights, steam, and hype men, is the countless amount of dollars put in to make the event possible. I can’t help but think that money could be better spent for hosting multiple dances instead of just one big dance.
One aspect that probably aids in Homecoming’s high attendance is the fact that besides Prom its the only other dance available for Niles North students to attend. Some may argue that the attendance to each dance with multiple dances would be low with multiple opportunities to go to a school dance and make it not worth it to sponsor multiple dances. However, with creative themes to make each dance seem different, I think it will help to make each dance still feel like a unique experience and maintain sustainable attendance. Brand new dance themes and commonly used ideas like Turnabout or Winter Formal could be all that’s needed to jazz up the events and encourage attendance!
So why not have more than one dance?
