Associated Student Body (ASB) is a new club at Niles North aimed to build school culture and spirit. Originally known as student council, the restructuring began last year to model off local districts. The shift was approved by the school board whose goal was to create a space that is more accessible for all students. ASB will allow students to find leadership roles and create opportunities that will benefit the whole building.
“The Associated Student Body is a school student leadership team whose primary purpose is to increase a sense of belonging for all students within the school community,” student activities director Natalie Hoss said. “It really is established to create the opportunity for everyone to get involved, as opposed to a limited number of students.”
Meetings for ASB take place Thursdays after school, or Mondays 5th period. During these meetings students will join together as a group to discuss ideas for different events and possible collaborations with other clubs. Beyond school spirit, ASB is also a place that students can bring up any other concerns they have regarding school.
“ASB has the opportunity to create agendas and kind of a ‘round table’ so they are able to talk about what might be things that they want to bring to this space, and then it’s the sponsors opportunity to guide them and provide them the ability to seek individuals in this building that they would need to connect with,” Hoss said.
When you join ASB you have the option to work with the larger group, or there are optional committees that you can join if you have a special interest. These committees are event management, assemblies, publicity, PR, promotion, purple pack, and community outreach.
If you’re a student interested in increasing school spirit, or showing off your leadership skills, ASB might be the right club for you.
