Isabel “Belly” Conklin may not have had it all figured out, but one thing’s for sure: Summer is never simple.
In the Prime Video hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty based on the book trilogy by Jenny Han, Season 3 turned out to be an emotional rollercoaster in Belly’s life. Choosing between the Fisher brothers, planning a wedding, facing family tensions, and trying to hold on to her future, Belly’s journey was anything but easy.
Fans had mixed feelings going into Season 3. After Season 2 ending on a dramatic cliffhanger, expectations were high. While some viewers felt the love triangle was starting to seem repressive, many praised the growth of Belly’s character.
“Belly chose herself over others as the show progressed, like her going to Paris instead of staying in a negative space,” junior Maryam Khan.
The finale, released on September 17 brought closure to several key storylines including Jeremiah’s love life and his relationship with Adam Fisher, his father; the resolution between Steven and Taylor, the new partnership with Denis; and of course the conclusion to Belly and Conrad’s love story, ultimately granting Susanna’s final wish. But that’s only where the movie begins.
The Season 3 finale had just been released, the same day Han announced that The Summer I Turned Pretty, The Movie is officially happening.
“I’m excited to see how they add to the story and hope to get more stories and details from the book incorporated into the movie,” junior Eliana Sokolovsky said.
According to Han, the story will focus on Belly’s last big chapter. While no official related date has been set, the movie is expected to begin production in early 2025 with main cast members like Lola Tung (Belly) and Christopher Briney (Conrad) returning.
“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Han said in a statement.
Whether you’re Team Conrad, Team Jeremiah, or Team Belly, the upcoming movie promises one last ride through Cousins Beach, and fans are already counting down the days.
