What is your name and department. How long have you worked at Niles North? My name is Larissa Petrakis, and I’ve been a school counselor at Niles North for 26 years.
What’s been your favorite part of North throughout this time? My favorite part of being at North was the cultural education that I experienced by being part of a diverse community. Students and faculty members have been gracious enough throughout the years to share their traditions, beliefs, and celebrations. I have a different level of understanding of a wide range of cultures that I might not have otherwise been exposed to.
What words of wisdom or advice would you give to aspiring teachers? When someone tells you a hard truth, consider it a gift and an opportunity for growth. Many people are not brave enough to be brutally honest. If the opportunity presents itself, don’t run away from it, embrace it and learn from it.
What are your plans for the future? I hope to continue to learn new skills by taking classes and to work part-time. I also plan to spend more time with my family.
