From March 17 to March 19, Niles North’s Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) traveled to Springfield, Illinois for the HOSA State Leadership Conference (SLC). Here, students competed in various events alongside peers from across the state.
The conference featured a wide variety of events regarding medical terminology, being a patient care technician, clinical nursing, and even the HOSA Bowl event was included. North students displayed their skills in both individual and team competitions, testing their knowledge and practical application of healthcare concepts.
In addition to all the hard work and dedication, the trip also created long-lasting memories. Whether it was enjoying ice cream, relaxing by the pool, or exploring the State Capitol, these moments gave everyone a chance to unwind and connect outside of the competition.
“My favorite part was getting to compete one last time with my HOSA bowl group,” junior Nela Hanic said. “It made me enjoy the last 3 years even more.”
During the competition, several North students placed among the top 10 in their respective events, while others earned the opportunity to qualify to the national competition in Nashville, Tennessee over the summer.
The qualifying list of students consists of Hassan Ahmed, Joseph Georgian, Muhammad Imran, Nuraz Khan, Iris Lee, Ahmad Malik, and Liljana Nelson.
“It’s an honor to qualify for HOSA internationals this year,” Lee said. “I’ve dedicated so much time and effort to growing in this organization. Placing in the top three at state is an amazing feeling. I’m excited at the opportunity to compete at the international level again this year.”
From showcasing their skills in competitive events, to making long lasting memories, the journey highlighted the dedication and teamwork of each HOSA member. Their commitment and effort were seen throughout the competition, leaving a great opportunity for growth and excitement for the future.
