What is your name and grade level? My name is Kendall Baker, and I’m a senior.
What activities are you involved in? I am involved in Auroris, a dance studio outside of school, a board member of HOSA, co-president of PALS, a part of the NHS, and a few other activities.
What is your favorite part of dancing? My favorite part of dancing is not only being able to creatively express myself through choreographing, but also, being able to escape from my everyday life and forget about all the stressful things for a few hours.
What is a lesson you’ve learned from dancing for so long? I think one lesson is probably to be confident in my ability to persevere. I get injured quite a bit when I dance, and over time I’ve learned that it isn’t impossible to push through it; I just need to be confident in my abilities, which I think applies to many aspects of my life.
Who sparked your interest in dance? Definitely my sister. When I was two, my sister got enrolled in ballet classes, and I was able to sit in the back and watch them and try and follow along; I loved it. As soon as I hit the age requirement, my mom put me right into classes.
What is one of your unpopular opinions? I do not like Taylor Swift.
Where is your favorite place you’ve traveled to? My favorite place I’ve traveled to is Greece. I have family there, and I got to visit them a few years ago. I loved the beautiful beaches and the whole atmosphere. I am super excited to go back this year.
If you could give any advice to a freshman, what would it be? I would tell them to not close themselves off to the clubs and opportunities we have here at North because freshman year is really when you can immerse yourself in all of that and create friendships.
What is one of your weird talents? I have basically photographic memory, like if you gave me a sequence of numbers or something and gave me a minute to memorize it, I could tell you the sequence a week later.
What is your favorite movie or TV show, and why? My favorite movie is Before Sunrise. It’s a romance movie, but they film it a little bit differently. I like how each scene is about 10—15 minutes long with no cuts, so it’s conversational-based. It feels more like you’re looking into these people’s lives rather than watching a staged scene.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? I would choose to teleport. I think that traveling takes up so much time and is super expensive, and it would make my life so much easier if I could just teleport there.
What animal would you be if you could choose any? I would choose to be a koala because they sleep all day and I love to sleep.
What is one of your biggest pet peeves? My biggest pet peeve is slow walkers or drivers. It’s just like, “I have places to be and things to do; come on.”
If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? I would eat Chipotle because I love it and there is so much variety in what I could have.
