Every year, Niles North’s Muslim Student Association (MSA) hosts an annual Iftar to mark the month of Ramdan, which is observed by many Muslim students and staff. Iftar is the meal used to break the fast during Ramadan, eaten at sunset, marking the end of the daily fasting period.
On Tuesday, March 18 at 5:45 p.m., the event’s doors will open to everyone taking place in the Main Gym. Those who RSVP via Google Form will have to pay $7 and those at the door will pay $10.
The event will feature an opening dua, which is a prayer to begin the evening, followed by guest speakers, the Maghrib prayer, dinner with desserts, and a photo booth for capturing memories.
North’s MSA Vice President Uruj Hazara invites everyone to join the event, encouraging participation and hoping to make it a memorable experience for all.
“The goal in mind when having this Iftar event is to celebrate Ramadan, you know, having the month of giving,” Hazara said. “Having this community especially in school is very important. We want to highlight that and show support as MSA for our students, any students, should come in.”
North’s MSA is seeking volunteers to help with setting up and decorating for the Iftar, as well as cleaning up afterwards. Last year’s volunteers had an amazing time, and would love help making this year’s event more special. Sign up with your friends and earn volunteer hours!
