What’s your name and year? My name is Lucy Emrich, and I’m a senior.
What activities do you do after school? I’m Vice President of Climate Change Club and Animal Club, and I’m also in Spanish Honor Society and National Honor Society. And I’m in varsity soccer.
What’s your favorite subject in school? Even though I want to major in biology, I don’t really feel like science is my favorite subject. I feel like my favorite subject probably is English or history, because I feel like it’s interesting to learn about people. In both of those subjects, I feel like you’re studying people and what people did.
When did you decide to become a vet, and why? I feel like I’ve known since I was in the womb that I wanted to be a veterinarian. Animals have just been my highest interest my whole life. I’ve just always been so fascinated by them and loved to be around them. But recently, since high school, with all the actual opportunities that it’s provided—I did this veterinary internship sophomore year—now I actually know what the job entails, and so it makes me even more sure about what I want to do, specifically what field I want to go into.
What kind of vet do you want to be? I want to be a zoological or wildlife veterinarian.
What are you excited for in college? I’m excited about the independence and not having to go to school from 8:00am to 3:30pm and that the classes will be staggered, and I won’t have the same ones every day. I think it’ll feel less monotonous and more exciting to be doing something different, a little bit different every day. And just all the new activities that will be on campus that we don’t have in high school.
What’s something you do to unwind? One thing I like to do is watch vlogs on YouTube. I love watching teenage girls just vlogging their lives, especially when they’re rich and don’t have to worry about anything, and all they do is get matcha and do yoga. I love watching; it makes me so relaxed. And then also, I like to read and spend time with my family.
What’s your favorite book? Recently, I read All the Light We Cannot See. And that was really good. It was so sad, but it was so interesting
Who are your favorite music artists? I’ve been really into Noah Kahan, but also Taylor Swift was my top artist every single year. Her discography is just so diverse, and there’s a song for every single mood you’re in.
Who is someone that inspires you? I would say my mom inspires me because she’s a single mom queen, and she has raised me and my sister with such good values and with so much support, and yeah, I just hope that I can be a mother like she is.
What is the key to your happiness? Probably the people that I surround myself with. My closest friends and family are my favorite people that make me happy.
