What is your name and grade level? Tulsi Shah, senior.
Who is someone who inspires you? My mother. She has a PhD in chemistry, and she got it while my brother and I were very little. I am amazed by her every day.
What activities are you involved in? I am the president of SASA, the captain of Niles Norths Indian dance team, North Nachle, the president of the Coding Club, a member of Athletic Trainers, and Auroris dance company, besides dancing outside of school too.
What is your favorite part of dancing? I love learning new choreography, especially when it’s a style of dance that I normally don’t do. I also love choreographing.
What is a lesson you’ve learned from dancing for so long? I’ve learned that mistakes happen, and you have to move on. In dance, when you mess up, you can not let that mistake affect the rest of your dance—you have to learn to move on quickly, and that is what I’ve learned from dance. When I first started dancing, when I made mistakes, it would affect the rest of the dance, but now when I make a mistake, I don’t dwell on it.
Who sparked your interest in dance? My mom, she danced when she was in high school and college, and she put me into dance at the young age of 3. I’ve done it ever since.
What is one of your unpopular opinions? Beyoncé is the best.
Where is your favorite place you’ve traveled to? Australia—we went this past summer. Everyone there is so nice, and it is really beautiful.
If you could give any advice to a freshman, what would it be? Don’t stress out a lot; if you do your work to the best of your ability, everything will go your way. Instead of stressing out, take that energy and use it to try to get your work done.
What is one of your weird talents? I don’t really have one, but I can read really fast, like less than 30 seconds per page.
What is your favorite movie or TV show, and why? My favorite show is Modern Family because I love the dynamic of all the characters, and it is really funny, especially the first couple of seasons.
What is your favorite class you’ve taken while at Niles North? SIRS. It’s a student-paced science class where you pick a research topic and then research it and make a poster.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? I would want to be invisible so I could just disappear for a minute to relax and not have people pestering me.
What is one of your biggest pet peeves? I hate chewing noises, so my biggest pet peeve is when someone chews really loudly or when they chew with their mouth open.
If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? Probably salad because you can do so much with it, you could never be bored.
