The girls’ track team is preparing for an exciting season, fueled by a sense of determination and a focus on development. Last season, while the team showed a great deal of promise, they encountered a few hurdles along the way but through and through, the athletes displayed a strong team spirit and an incredibly positive, coachable attitude.
Looking forward, the coaches are focused on creating a program that offers more opportunities for competition, hoping to cultivate a sense of commitment from athletes who are serious about their training. This includes emphasizing goal-specific training, where athletes can learn how to set personal objectives and work toward them in a structured and intentional way. The coaching staff has also been collaborating closely to select meets that align with the goals of the program, ensuring that the athletes are competing in events that will challenge them and allow them to grow.
In addition, the goal is not just to develop faster runners but to help the athletes become mentally tough, more physically strong, and more competitive in nature. For this team, it is about developing well-rounded individuals who know how to handle both the highs and lows of competition.
At the core of the team, there are strong values of effort, discipline, and character. These are the qualities that the coaches emphasize with each practice.
“Effort, discipline, and great character require ZERO talent,” Head Coach Nancy Harmon often says. This mindset is the foundation on which the team is built. The athletes are encouraged to push themselves, to embrace failure as part of the growth process, and to understand that true success comes from consistent effort and learning from challenges along the way.
As the season progresses, the team is also eyeing some key meets and competitions. These events will serve as milestones for the athletes, allowing them to test their progress and gain the experience needed to take their training to the next level. While achieving success on the track is a priority, the coaches are also mindful of keeping athletes healthy, with a focus on reducing injuries through proper conditioning and recovery strategies. Not only that, but they also have high hopes that this season will be more than just about performances on the track; it will be about developing a stronger, more committed group of athletes who support one another.
For those who may still be interested in joining, the team welcomes athletes from winter sports to come try out, though spots are limited. The excitement surrounding the new season is palpable, and the team is eager to rise to the challenges of the upcoming season.
