As another Superbowl passes us, so do the commercials that come with it. It’s time to find out whether the 2025 commercials will surpass those of last year.
My personal favorite – Instacart
This year, Instacart took on its first Super Bowl commercial, and it did not disappoint. The 30-second commercial features classic mascots such as Chester Cheetah, Mr. Clean, the Kool-Aid man, and even the pink Energizer bunny. The ad does a great job of connecting their brand to the big game by playing on the fact that nobody can give such a perfect delivery as Instacart.
Pulled at the heartstrings – Google Pixel 9
In this commercial, a dad is seen using his Google Pixel 9 with its Gemini AI chatbot feature and using it to prepare for an upcoming interview. When asked by the chatbot what job taught him the most, the father reminisces about raising his daughter, from being a young girl to getting dropped off at college. After preparation and now feeling ready, the dad opens his computer to begin his interview, and it’s easy to spot a pink note on his desk that reads “Good luck, Dad!” This ad was by far the sweetest of this year, showing that fatherhood is the best experience for work.
Most hated – Yeezy
Dropping this commercial was part of Kanye West’s week-long 2025 controversy. Already skating on thin ice, “Ye” bought himself a feature in this set of commercials. The commercial is shot on his iPhone, not showing much professionalism at all. Overall, it’s a pretty simple ad, showing Kanye laying in what looks like a dentist chair, showing off his new teeth. Following that is a series of “Umms” and “Hmms” until he says “Go to yeezy.com,” which is his clothing website that recently put products up supporting P Diddy and Hitler. Overall, this was a pretty hated commercial, whether it was because of the lack of effort or just Kanye himself.
Funniest – Mountain Dew
Seeing this commercial on the screen immediately caught my attention. It follows music artist Seal as a seal, singing a parody of his song “Kiss From a Rose” with its own little Mountain Dew twist. This was such a creative ad, which isn’t unexpected from Mountain Dew, but this one for sure takes the cake. This commercial brought a bit of a comeback for Seal, who signed, sealed, and delivered.
Most inspirational – NFL
Girls Flag Football is highlighted in the NFL’s Super Bowl commercial. I loved this commercial because flag football is a sport that has a lot of momentum and just recently has been made an official varsity sport at Niles North. The ad is structured like a classic American movie, with football jocks saying that “Girls can’t play football” and then getting nervous and frustrated when they figure out that girls from their school are better than them. As a female athlete, I loved seeing the NFL come out with a commercial like this. It’s an inspiration to not just me but to women everywhere, and it speaks of high levels of empowerment.
This year, similar to every year, was a great year for Super Bowl commercials, and I hope next year will be even better.
