As Valentine’s Day approaches, Niles North is spreading love in more ways than one. This year, the school is offering a variety of heartwarming activities to celebrate the season of love, and many of them also support our amazing student-run clubs.
One of the highlights is the Vocal Valentine program run by the Niles North choirs. Sold for just $5, choirs visit a class and perform the song selected on the order form. Sending your vocal valentine anonymously adds a touch of mystery to the celebration. Whether you’re sending a song to a friend, a crush, or someone special, it’s a fun and unique way to show you care.
Freshman Lenn Piatek, a choir member, shares why students should purchase a vocal valentine.
“I think everyone should buy a vocal valentine,” Piatek said. “It can be for friends or for the person you’re dating, and it’s a silly fun way to show your love for the people close to you on Valentine’s Day!”
Dance Marathon is also getting into the spirit of Valentine’s Day by selling roses for $4 each and lollipops for $1 from Feb. 10 to Feb. 13 during lunch periods. These items will come with a small note and will be delivered to homerooms on Valentine’s Day. Proceeds from these sales support this year’s Dance Marathon fundraiser for the Chicago Refugee Coalition.
But that’s not all: on Feb. 12, Dance Marathon will also host an event after school in the New Commons, in collaboration with North’s Fem Club and their old beneficiary Apna Ghar to raise awareness about healthy relationships.
In addition, Calliope hosted a stand during the lunch periods on Feb. 11, where students created love letters that they will delivered during homeroom on Valentine’s Day, for free!
After this, on Feb. 13, Assyrian Club will host a special celebration after school in the AVID Commons. The Assyrian Heritage & Heart Celebration will combine the celebration of Assyrian Thanksgiving and a Valentine’s Day themed gathering. This event is an opportunity for students to come together and enjoy cultural traditions while celebrating love and appreciation.
“People should attend this event because it’s a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day while also experiencing a different culture and traditions,” sophomore Lizzy Kanoon said. “This year, it’s especially meaningful to me because our Assyrian Club celebration falls on Assyrian Thanksgiving, right after a very holy fast. That means I get to break my fast with amazing food, surrounded by people I love!”
Valentine’s Day at North gives students an opportunity to engage in a variety of festive activities that celebrate the season of love. These events offer a fun way to support various school organizations bringing the community together to share love and joy.
