Bughouse studio is a fun, hip and vibrant art studio. In other words, it’s the perfect place to let your creativity wander.
Andrea Horyn is the owner and operator of this hands-on workshop. Andrea, with the help of her husband English teacher Dan Horyn, was able to pursue her dreams of opening an art studio to help spread her knowledge and love of the craft.
Bughouse studio offers a variety of different art mediums including painting, glass fusing and ceramics. Every day the studio offers a variety of classes. One popular workshop is “Ceramics for Everyone.” This class is geared for beginning artists and those who hope to perfect their ceramics skills. The class is offered on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:45 p.m.
Another workshop and a real crowd-pleaser is “Open Studio”, held every Wednesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. This workshop allows fledgling artists to come into the studio and work on their own creative projects. Materials are provided, however, artists can bring their own supplies. This free time allows artists to come in and unleash their minds. This calm workshop is the perfect setting for an artist to work. The charge is $10 per hour.
The classes, camps, and workshops offered are both fun and creative. This bright and inviting workshop gives artists the freedom to explore their creative side and caters to all ages. This studio allows your artwork to be put to use, by creating fun accessory pieces or display artwork.
I personally enjoyed glass fusing. Once I arrived at Bughouse, I received a quick tutorial on fused glass work and then I began. I was able to cut, shape and design glass pendants to use in necklaces, bracelets and even earrings. I like that I was able to pick up on the technique so quickly.
The next time you’re looking for a fun activity for a vacation day, head down to Bughouse Studio.

I love that you wrote about one of the best places in Skokie! A lot of us North kids trek to Evanston for fun, but going to Bughouse and then grabbing dessert at Sweetie Pie’s Bakery is the best! I have several works that have been created with Mrs. Horyn’s help and they all sit proudly on my kitchen table. And she always has a great playlist playing.
