District 219’s Dance Marathon (DM), a student-run organization that raises money for nonprofits, has a major goal they want to accomplish. Every year they raise money to donate to a local charity of their choice. This year, the club raises money for Chicago Refugee Coalition, a Rogers Park-based organization, dedicated to providing “dignified support” for Chicago refugees. As the next school year approaches, DM seeks help choosing their next year beneficiary.
DM is asking students and staff to nominate an organization that has shown dedication and passion to its cause. To nominate a charity, community members can use this form. Anyone who wishes to self-nominate their own organization is encouraged to copy this form, if doing so.
“The charities we are looking for are ones that help the community and are in close proximity to Skokie, however this is not a requirement,” junior and DM Executive Amber Weatherspoon said. “If you feel like you have seen one make a huge change in our community and needs more support, I would say absolutely nominate them.”
DM will go through a thorough process to select next year’s beneficiary. After choosing a charity, throughout the year DM will hold various fundraising events to collect as many donations as possible. These donations will then be sent to the organization, in hopes to make a positive impact on whatever cause it is fighting for. Over the past 20 years DM has managed to raise more than $1 million. They hope to continue their mission of making a change in the upcoming year.
The deadline to nominate is Feb. 10. If you have any more questions or concerns, please contact [email protected], or, visit the Dance Marathon website at www.dm219.org.
