“I’m ready to launch Kitty 2.0.”
The To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before book series by Jenny Han became a huge success which was adapted into a film franchise that began in 2018 and concluded in 2021. The films, particularly the love story between Lara Jean Song Covey (Lana Condor) and Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo), became incredibly well known. In 2023, the story shifted focus onto the younger sister, Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) with the release of the TV show XO, Kitty on May 18, 2023. The second season of the series premiered on January 16, 2025.
XO, Kitty follows Kitty Song Covey, the youngest sister from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, as she moves to South Korea to attend KISS (Korean Independent School of Seoul) to be closer to her long-distance boyfriend, Dae-heon Kim (Choi Min-young). While attending KISS, she befriends Q (Anthony Keyvan), who she meets through Dae, Yuri Han (Gia Kim), whom she meets during her car ride to KISS, as well as Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee), who she encounters before even realizing it. As she navigates life at school, Kitty faces challenges of love, friendship, and self-discovery.
At the end of XO, Kitty’s first season, things didn’t go as Kitty had hoped, but as she returns to KISS for her second year, she’s ready for a fresh start. Kitty is determined to learn more about her mother and her ancestry, confront her fears regarding new relationships, navigate a complicated love hexagon, and ultimately figure out who she truly is.
“I liked how Kitty tried to improve her lifestyle more in season two,” sophomore Melva Sabah said. “I did not like how Kitty kept getting with everyone and not choosing wisely. She’s not committed. But I love how she tries to find out more about her mom and family. That was actually my favorite part of the season”
In season two of XO, Kitty, several new characters bring even more drama and depth to the storyline. There’s Juliana (Regan Aliyah), Yuri’s “perfect” and artistic girlfriend whose presence sparks complexity in Kitty’s life. There’s also Parveena (Sasha Bhasin), the enthusiastic and determined girl, who takes the role of a self-proclaimed expert stalker, being a little sidekick to Kitty. Jin (Joshua Lee) constantly strives to prove himself to his family, especially through his running pursuits. And then there’s Stella (Audrey Huynh), the mysterious character known for being the “Ohio Weirdo” by Kitty and Juliana.
In addition to new characters, XO, Kitty season two also brings back some familiar faces, which many fans were pleased to see. Peter Kavinsky, beloved boyfriend of Lara Jean from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before returns, continuing his bond with Kitty and providing emotional support in her journey. Kitty’s oldest sister, Margot Song Covey (Janel Parrish), also returns, adding to the family dynamic and offering guidance to Kitty.
Many fans were thrilled to see the return of these characters such as sophomore Michaela Paramben, who expressed her excitement.
“I’d give the show a 6/10,” Paramben said. “I liked it when Peter Kavinsky came back. It was so funny and sweet, and it brought back memories from the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movies.”
My honest opinion on XO, Kitty was that it was an interesting interpretation. The twist was unique with Kitty and I’ve always loved Kitty, trust me. I believe this show had a lot of plot and caused overstimulation at times. You’re rooting for Kitty but then she does something that wants to make you shout “No, Kitty!” to the screen. I would have to say I love the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise better than XO, Kitty. I have a huge connection with the whole series. For me, Lara Jean has always been an inspiration with her words and actions and will continue to be. I’ve always thought wow she’s so real and she’s so confident in ways that I could be., towards family, friends, and to herself. If I had to pick between which season of XO, Kitty was better, I would choose season one. l believe it had fewer twists and was more focused while season two was all over the place. If I had to pick my favorite part of season two, it would be when Peter Kavinsky reappears and Kitty’s whole journey on finding her mother’s ancestry.
XO, Kitty is perfect for fans of plot twists, romance, and adventure.
