The roles are reversed as Niles North students celebrate their Viking Cheer peers! On Jan. 16, the squad went to Niles West High School and met cheerleaders representing the Wolves, Highland Park, Maine East, Maine West, and Vernon Hills. After a spirited performance, the Vikings were awarded the Central Suburban League title.
This achievement comes as part of a continued streak of success: Viking Cheer won the Central Suburban League last year before going down to Bloomington, Illinois to compete against cheer teams across the state. Niles North ended up placing 13th in the IHSA’s co-ed, bringing in more hardware for this storied program.
The varsity cheerleaders aren’t done yet, though. They’ll be on the sidelines at Jan. 17’s Crosstown Classic, when the Boys and Girls Basketball teams play at Niles West to complete the season series. They’ll also go to Buffalo Grove High School to compete in the IHSA State Series on Feb. 1. And, the freshmen still have a CSL title to compete for, so you can support them at Niles West on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 9:00 AM.
