What is your name and grade level? Micah Chan, Junior.
Who is someone that inspires you? My Dad definitely inspires me. Literally every time I ask him a question, even a simple one, he answers as if he’s been expecting me to ask and has been thinking of the perfect answer for the past 3 hours.
What activities are you involved in and outside of school? In school, I’m involved in the Science Olympiad and outside of school I’m involved in playing instruments like the piano and cello, all through the Music Institute of Chicago. Also, I participate in Chamber Music.
What is your favorite thing about playing the piano? I love how it’s a great avenue for self-expression, and also an outlet for me to share my thoughts and emotions with others.
What has playing the piano taught you as a person? If you really enjoy something, you can improve at it very fast without trying too hard.
Where is your favorite place you’ve traveled to? Probably Singapore. My family’s from Malaysia, so it’s right next door, and I’ve gotten to travel there a few times.
If you could give any advice to a freshman, what would it be? Think of High School like Middle School. It’s the same thing but cooler.
What is your favorite class you’ve taken while at Niles North? AP Computer Science A because I liked the content we were learning and the people in the class.
What is one of your unpopular opinions? I am a huge Discord light mode supporter.
What is your favorite movie or TV show, and why? Definitely the movie Soul. I loved the music, story, and the deep philosophical conversations I had with my family afterward. I’d highly recommend it.
What animal would you be if you could choose any? I’d want to be a Squirrel because they kind of live alongside humans, can handle falls from literally any height, and have a great reaction time. Also, they’re pretty cute.
What is one of your biggest pet peeves? Probably backwards scrolling. You know, when you scroll down with the mouse or trackpad, the page scrolls up, so annoying. I like to quickly switch my friends’ computers to regular scrolling when they’re not looking. Sometimes they don’t even notice the difference.
