What is your name, what grade are you in, and what pronouns do you use? I am Samuel Aryeh Schultz, I am a junior, and my pronouns are he/him.
What extracurricular activities are you part of? I am part of the Dungeons & Dragons Club. I was a Dungeon Master last year for a bit. I am also part of the Tabletop Games Club, and through my Hebrew class, I am part of Jew Crew and Israeli Club.
What does Jew Crew do? We just talk about being Jewish. We get to be Jewish in a space with other Jewish people. There’s also good food.
How do you spend your free time? I read a lot on my phone, on the SCP website, because I find a lot of those different entries really interesting. I used to read really long books, and then I read a really, really long book that was a guy’s diary from 1939 to 1945, and I was like, “Maybe long books aren’t for me anymore.”
What’s your favorite book? That’s hard, because I like a lot of books. I like a lot of the Star Wars–Legends books. I see those as superior to the current sequel movies for Star Wars. I also like the book Krieg. It’s set in Warhammer 40k and features my favorite Warhammer 40k faction, the Death Korps of Krieg.
What does your ideal day look like? I would probably stay in bed for however long I wanted, which sometimes ranges from getting up at 6 o’clock to just staying in bed. I would probably read for a while, maybe watch a few videos on YouTube, have breakfast (preferably chocolate Cheerios), have some time on my computer, playing Arma 3 (Armed Assault 3), which is my favorite game. I would probably relax some more, have a bagel with peanut butter and carrots for lunch. Have more time on my computer, relax, have dinner—my mom makes some really good enchilada casserole—then go to bed.
What is your favorite movie? I would have to say A New Hope. It’s a classic, and I like Star Wars—except for the sequels, I just don’t like them. Yeah, A New Hope is good. It pioneered a lot of cool tactics that are used in movies today.
Who is your favorite person in your life? I can’t pick one, so I’ll have to say my parents. I love them a lot. There’s that cliche where teenagers get really distant from their parents, but I am not distant from my parents at all. I love them a lot. I know this is kind of a tangent, but I know there are people who would describe me as a very affectionate person, and I would say that is true.
Is being affectionate something you really appreciate about yourself? Yeah. I just like making other people happy, and being affectionate shows other people that I care about them, just as something that will make people happy. I mean, I like making people happy, so it makes me happy when other people are happy, so it’s a win-win for everyone.
Which traits do you value most in a person? I like when people are kind, and unafraid to say what they think. I feel like a lot of problems these days come from people just not expressing themselves and being too afraid to state their emotions. A lot of that is misogyny, especially in men, where we’re like, “Men can’t show emotions.” And I heavily disagree with that. Show your emotions. It is important, and if you are in a relationship, it just makes it more genuine. Just being kind, and putting up with what other people are interested [in], to a point. If they’re doing it too much, then it’s okay to just say “Hey, could you please stop? Because it’s getting too much.”
