More than 239,000 children receive medical care at Lurie children’s hospital each year. The largest pediatric provider in the region, consisting of a medical staff of more than 1,800 physicians and allied health professionals in 70 pediatric specialties. The new club “Students for Lurie Children’s Hospital” (SLC) is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to supporting and raising money for Luries.
As of now in the beginning stages of the club’s rise, meetings consist of planning and organization.
“Organization in terms of volunteer work. That volunteer work is mostly ways to get money, which can be done by canning, similarly done by Dance Marathon,” Club president Aleka Radovanovic said. “Since we’re still a trial club, we’re just talking about our future plans and our steps to get more people to join the club.”
You might be thinking, why should I join? Well, It’s a great way to get involved with the community. The club’s main objective is to support Luries and the children who are in need.Other reasons to join include enhancing college transcripts, meeting requirements for scholarship programs, building experience and life skills, or even fulfilling a drive to give back to the community. Whatever the reason may be, this club offers a lot of opportunities to extend your volunteer experience and hours.
Whoever you are, anyone has a position in the club. There are plenty of fun activities presented at meetings.
“It’s a fun club too,” Club president Aleka Eadovanovic said. “We don’t just do serious things, yesterday at our meeting we did some cool physics tricks.”
